Every year the Chaminade Music Club awards prize money to young musicians. The awards are presented to vocal and instrumental

The first prize is $500, second prize is $300, and third prize is $200. It is hoped that these awards might be helpful to the winners in their future study of serious music.

2017 Scholarship Competition Winners

The Chaminade Music Club held its 55th annual Scholarship Award concert on Sunday, April 2, at the Florence Hayward Sweet Club House, Peck and Bank Streets, Attleboro. The competition was open to high school musicians, both vocalists and instrumentalists. A total of $1,000. in prizes was awarded.

Two First Prizes of $500.00 each were awarded to two outstanding students:
 - Komal Prakash - mezzo-soprano (pictured right)
 - Megan wong - piano (pictured left)

The Chaminade Music Club awards are given to high school students for the advanced study of classical music. Benefits for the participants include the experience of a solo performance in front of a live audience, as well as constructive critiques from a panel of professional musicians.

Rules Governing the Auditions

  1. Auditions are open to vocalists or instrumentalists who are students in the 9th through 12th grades of High School and have studied voice or their instrument for two or more years.
  2. Students must be currently studying with a private teacher. Application forms shall include a recommendation from the private teacher.
  3. Students must meet one of the following requirements:
    1. Be a resident of one of the following communities: 
      Attleboro, North Attleboro, Plainville, Wrentham, Foxboro, Mansfield, Norton, Taunton, Dighton, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Franklin, Sharon, Canton, Walpole, Easton, Cumberland RI, Pawtucket RI.
    2. Be a son or daughter of a Chaminade Music Club member in good standing.
    3. Be a student of a Chaminade Music Club member in good standing.
  4. Applicants must present two selections from different musical periods: Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionist, or 20th-21st Century. All repertoire must be in what is generally understood to be a classical idiom. Questions about suitability of repertoire should be addressed to the Chair of Music Awards Committee. Final decisions of suitable repertoire will rest with the Chaminade Music Club Executive Board.
  5. Total time of the applicant's performance should not exceed fifteen minutes.
  6. Applicants are required to perform their selections from memory. It is better for a student to select music which they can perform well rather than to select music that is too difficult.
  7. Three copies of music for each selection must be provided for the judges at the time of the audition.
  8. The Club will assist the candidate in securing an accompianist, if needed.
  9. The Chaminade Music Club reserves the right to withhold the presentations of any prize if, in the opinion of the judges, there is no qualified recipient.
